Over 40% of all natural disasters worldwide involve flooding.  Climate Change is driving an exponential growth in both the frequency and damage of flooding events. Between 1980 and 2008, floods affected an average of 97 million people and caused $13 billion of damage per year, with a distinct upwards trend.

If you couple the lack of a global strategy to tackle climate change with the current economic crisis and subsequent funding cuts for disaster preparation, it is clear that we need realistic and scalable solutions to ADAPT to what is coming.

In general, the poorest populations in the developing world are the most at-risk, and must find ways to adapt or suffer the consequences.
